Heart of Haiti Campaign – My Favorite Things

I am so smitten with this very cool paper mache´ vase from the Macy’s Heart of Haiti initiative. It adds a little unexpected zing to my living room, a pop that just stands out!

What I love most about it is the mission BEHIND the vase. The Heart of Haiti is a “Trade Not Aid” initiative. It was launched by artist and social entrepreneur, Willa Shalit, the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund, and Macy’s. The goal is to provide artists with an opportunity to make a living, feed their families, and pay their children’s school fees. As an artist myself, I appreciate that they have a path to creating such beautiful items and getting them out in to the world!

My vase was hand-signed, reminding me of the connection of myself with the artist that created it.

Already, The Heart of Haiti collection has led to employment of 750 artists in Haiti providing financial benefits for an estimated 8,000 people in the country.
