About three years ago, I decided I was going to teach myself how to knit. A friend loaned me a book on knitting basics for kids, I bought my supplies, and taught myself how to make simple scarves, straight lines on top of straight lines. Everyone got a scarf for Christmas. And while it was something simple and small, there was a satisfaction in knowing I taught myself a new skill, one that had a practical application with tangible results. I’m now also a little better at it thanks to Christine’s help over Skype and with some online resources.
All the information we’d ever need to learn something new is at our fingertips. Videos, pictures, diagrams. If you want to figure out how to do something, you just need to Google it, really.
For today’s prompt, consider a few skills you’ve always admired in your friends or family members, that you wish you had. Is there anything you’ve always wished you new how to do yourself? Have there been things you’ve avoided learning in the past, or felt intimidated by for whatever reason? Make a plan for learning something new. Will you take a class this year, or buy a book?
We’d love to see what you come up with!

I’m a communicator. That’s a PC way of saying I like to talk, but I also spend a lot of my time listening, and over the years, I’ve developed a sense for subtext – how one or two words can change your entire message, what people are really trying to say and how to weave the varied layers of your story into one cohesive brand message that your clients fall in love with.
When I'm not acting as editor in chief for Vivid & Brave, you can find me geeking out over words here.

I’m going to learn how to do Calligraphy! I already signed up for a class in January, so excited to learn something new!
I am going to learn as much as I can about video. I want to do more than just shoot video and do basic editing. I want to do more. I have purchased a few classes and I am looking forward to learning.
