This is going to be hard to admit: I’ve never been one for setting goals.
I have a vision of where I want to go, and I keep working to get there, but I don’t normally set goals to make it happen. I’ve come to realize over the past year that I do that to give myself an out for not reaching the big dreams. After all, you can’t fail if you don’t really try, right? Plus I’ve been quite successful in my drifting state, why add in goals to muck it all up?
Once I discovered that that was what I had been doing, I started to wonder what would happen if I lived with more intention, with more purpose. What if I not only set goals, but worked to achieve them? How would that change both my personal & professional life? If I had not just a vision of where I wanted to go, but goals to help get me there?
2014 is the year of setting goals for me. It isn’t going to be easy. It is a new way of thinking. I’m sure I will stumble, but with goals I also think it will be easier to find my way back.
Are you a goal setter? Will you be making goals for 2014? Or do you prefer to not make goals? Why do you choose whether or not to make goals? How have goals helped you achieve things in the past?
One more question to help me out – do you have any goal setting tips you would like to share? I could use a few to get me started!

Jen and Michelle have really helped me see this a bit different. Setting tactics are just as important as setting goals
I love this! I used to set goals but haven’t in years. And it shows… After giving birth 22 yrs ago I wanted to lose 46 pounds to get back to where I was in the beginning. I set my goals and once I got there I was loving working out so much I decided to go lower. Ended up losing 60 lbs. And became an aerobics instructor for 13 years. You’ve inspired me to set goals for 2014. An inspiration board works wonders! And write your goals down where you see them all the time and be specific. I’ll be working on mine this week. Thank you!
