Countdown to 2014 Journal Prompt #8 – Setting Goals

This is going to be hard to admit: I’ve never been one for setting goals.

I have a vision of where I want to go, and I keep working to get there, but I don’t normally set goals to make it happen. I’ve come to realize over the past year that I do that to give myself an out for not reaching the big dreams. After all, you can’t fail if you don’t really try, right? Plus I’ve been quite successful in my drifting state, why add in goals to muck it all up?

Once I discovered that that was what I had been doing, I started to wonder what would happen if I lived with more intention, with more purpose. What if I not only set goals, but worked to achieve them? How would that change both my personal & professional life? If I had not just a vision of where I wanted to go, but goals to help get me there?

2014 is the year of setting goals for me. It isn’t going to be easy. It is a new way of thinking. I’m sure I will stumble, but with goals I also think it will be easier to find my way back.

Are you a goal setter? Will you be making goals for 2014? Or do you prefer to not make goals? Why do you choose whether or not to make goals? How have goals helped you achieve things in the past?

One more question to help me out – do you have any goal setting tips you would like to share? I could use a few to get me started!
