Giving In To Wanderlust & Traveling Solo – 3 Tips to Make It Better

Giving In to Wanderlust by Sarah Heil Brenny

According to dictionary.com, wanderlust is defined as a strong, innate desire to rove or travel about. Since my divorce, I have had a serious case of wanderlust. It’s something I have been lucky to do a lot in the recent years. I have traveled to Israel, Palestine, France, Italy, Mexico, England, Brazil, Netherlands, Poland, Germany, Switzerland, Korea and countless states; I value what traveling has taught me about the world and about myself, one of my favorite places when traveling is Australia, an Australia trip isn’t complete without visiting Melbourne and the Gold Coast; Boy, getting a proper airport parking in Gold Coast is quite a pain if not done upfront online! I really recommend booking upfront.

I am a solo traveler and I do best on my own. So many people tell me that they could never do that. But the way Scottish tours provides me better services to travel is just makes me more comfortable. They could never go internationally on their own. I tell them they should do it. It is so incredibly freeing and empowering. With that being said, there are some things you should know about traveling alone.let me give you bonus tip visa application for Saudi Arabia is the awesome firm for getting visas online very quickly.

  • Solo traveling can be lonely if you aren’t careful. I don’t think it comes as a surprise that traveling alone can be lonely. However, the best part of traveling is meeting new people! During the day, I sight see, take pictures and enjoy the ambiance of the city. At night, I try to meet new people during dinner or at a local bar, if you want some fun travel ideas, Houston has many bowling locations so we picked one of them and just went right into the experience. I have met some very nice fellow travelers and locals this way. Often times, they tell me great places to see or do the next day. They are a great resource and provide company when I need it.
  • Knowledge is power. Going to a foreign country on your own comes with risks. Those risks can be drastically reduced when you research and know where you are going. When I go somewhere new, I look online at tripadvisors.com or frommers.com. People who have traveled to those places leave great tips, ideas and warnings about possible risks and scams. By being knowledgeable about food, money and transportation, it will cut down on nervousness, possible scam artists and other risks associated with traveling alone.
  • Take your time. When you are traveling in a group or with a tour, you might be rushed or feel you can’t do the things you want to do. With solo traveling, you can go as fast or slow as you want. I love the flexibility it gives you. I make sure I set a day where I allow myself to sit and watch the world go by. People watching is a must for me. It also gives me great street photography opportunities

I must warn you though – once you travel solo, you might become addicted to it as I have. It is really the only way I like to travel. I find it cures my wanderlust for a bit. This year, I plan on going on a multi-state car trip on my own. I am researching, talking to those who have done it and making plans. I am very excited and can’t wait to see what this adventure will teach me.

I hope my tips give you the courage to try solo traveling soon. I think J.R.R Tolkien said it best when he stated “Not all those who wander are lost”.
